Carpet isn't made for kitchens or bathrooms, where spills and steam can soak in. For those rooms, vinyl or LVT is the better choice.

Dublin Heathers Felt Anthracite 158 is a twist pile carpet. Twist pile carpets use tightly twisted yarns that hold their shape, resist flattening and help hide footprints, making them a hard-wearing all-rounder for living rooms, hallways and stairs.

Why choose it. It's made from polypropylene, a hard-wearing, colourfast fibre that resists most household stains and is easy to clean, making it a practical choice for family homes. A felt back adds comfort and stability, and gives a neat, fray-resistant edge when cut. It's suitable for stairs as well as rooms, so you can carry the same carpet through the whole house. It comes with a 10-year guarantee.

Sizes and ordering. Sold by the square metre and cut to the length you need from 4m & 5m wide rolls. Choose the width that covers your room with the fewest joins, and add around 10cm on each side for trimming. Remember to add underlay and gripper for a comfortable, long-lasting fit.

Complete your fit with carpet underlay and gripper and door bars.
